Lifetime producer Danny Feder had this idea about having the promo's titles appear in various recording studio equipment and I took the ball and ran with it. Rather than shoot live-action plates for the various VU meters and digital displays, I ended up creating them all from scratch with elaborate 2D composites. Other shots feature 3d camera tracking on live action plates of the mixing boards.

Not a real screen... I built this macro closeup screen inspired by the old Sony Trinitron™ CRT displays.
This retro LED VU meter was indeed built and animated completely from scratch in 2D. All I started out with was one cropped LED image that I duplicated for all the lights. All of the reactive lighting was done by hand using some 2D tricks (no 3d lighting).
I started out with a stock still photo of a VU meter. I added reflections of other spectrum analyzer equipment to add some additional excitement.
